By Lord Huron
Songwriting is a very economical form of art, and it's about presenting a whole story in 3 to 4 minutes and evoke certain feelings in the audience. And Lord Huron, a band that creates beautifully bizarre music, have come up with some incredible songs that evoke feelings of all kind in their listeners. Lord Huron is a four-member band consisting of Tom Renaud, Ben Schneider, Mark Barry, and Miguel Briseño.
The Night We Met by Lord Huron was recorded and released in 2015. In 2010, Ben Schneider formed Lord Huron as a solo project, recording his first few EPs entirely on his own and continuously recruiting members to help him perform live shows. The band's name was influenced by Lake Huron, the lake that Schneider grew up visiting; he spent evenings playing music around the lake's campfire.
The song "The Night We Met" received a massive amount of success after being featured in 13 Reasons why, and it was streamed over 300 million times in 2017. The songwriter, singer, and producer of "The night we met" is Ben Schneider.
In one of his interviews, Schneider says that he was inspired by the classic country song of the Golden age, and he was always attracted to tragic tales of love and loss. The song "The night we met" possesses the tragic tale that Schneider finds fascinating, and it is clearly narrative with a pretty distinct storyline.
It is a song about lost love. The narrator regrets starting a relationship with a woman that ended so poorly and longs to go back to the night they first met. He would never get into a relationship with her if he were ever to get a second chance because now, he knows that it would break his heart later. He is not able to overcome his feelings for her and his memories with her. The chorus says that he had the most of her, and then some of her, and now none of her. This shows how their relationship faded gradually. Indeed, they had a rough start, but they both overcame those situations and eventually fell in love. But it wasn't meant to last long enough. The song is both melodious and haunting at the same time.
This is one of my all time favourite songs and reading this post just made me feel so good. It's not really a mainstream pop song and that's the beauty of it. Hopefully, you'll write about more simple yet beautifully written songs that are underrated.
Nice one.
Somebody correctly said that this song sounds like heaven but hurts like hell.
love the song!
