LET ME DOWN SLOWLY

By Alec Benjamin

"Let Me Down Slowly" is an album by American singer-songwriter Alec Benjamin that was first released as a solo version in 2018 before being re-released in early 2019 as a duet with Canadian singer Alessia Cara and a French version with singer Michal Morin. Sir Nolan recorded the song, with Aaron Z offering additional development, and Benjamin co-wrote it with Michael Pollack and Sir Nolan. The solo edition's music video was released on June 4, 2018, and the duet version's music video was published on February 6, 2019. Two weeks later, Benjamin and Cara created a video for an acoustic cover of the song, which was launched. Alec Benjamin rose to prominence after his breakout mixtape, ‘Narrated for You’, which was released in 2018. The first video depicts a woman's deteriorating relationship with her boyfriend, which culminates in her looting a grocery store; Benjamin acts as an onlooker in the video. Benjamin and Cara sing their verses alone in various places in the second video, which is intercut with scenes of couples celebrating their relationship.

Benjamin quickly gained interest from other artists, including one of his main influences, John Mayer, who asked him to appear on his Instagram Live TV show Current Mood, where the pair performed a few of the former's tracks. Benjamin's first relationship inspired this album, which is the lead single from ‘Narrated for You’. He told Billboard that they'd hit a point in their relationship where he really loved her but thought he was at her mercy. Alec Benjamin sings of his first love in this album, especially the part where he felt insecure, something he (and most people) couldn't write about publicly. As a result, he composed a song about it. The singer expresses his passion for the girl and how he would be left lovelorn if she left him. It's too hard for him to bear at once, as it seems to come at a cost to him that she does not always choose to be with him. He explains how, while lying in bed with his girlfriend in his apartment in a comfortable manner during college, he could instinctively feel whether she was in a grumpy mood.

Whether she was struggling through something, was in a bad mood, or if something was wrong, he could consider. His girlfriend got out of bed and began walking between the kitchen and the bathroom sink as written in the lyrics that made him uncomfortable. This demonstrates how close he was to her and how he could read her feelings as soon as he saw a difference in her behavior. He simply felt compelled to tell others what he was going through. His emotions are out of control. He talks about how someone needs to share something in order to get over everything, the feeling of not being able to keep from slipping down. The music is clear to comprehend and relate to, and it sounds lovely. It effectively captures the listener's interest while it also reflects his negative personal experiences and considers this album as an effort to vent his misery.
