"Being happy doesn’t mean that everything is perfect. It means that you’ve decided to look beyond the imperfections." – Gerard Way
1. Origins
This new awareness wave of accepting body types is not something "new". as a matter of fact, this fight again body shaming could be dated back to the 1850s where women protested against the use of corsets for maintaining and molding their body shape. The movement was officially started in 1996, created by Connie Sobczak and Elizabeth Scott. it was born out of Connie's own eating disorder and Scott being a psychologist specializing in eating disorders co-founded the movement.
2. What does it mean?
The body positivity movement was initiated with the motive to recognize and accept the various body types that are present in society. This campaign is intended to eradicate the orthodox touchstone that a certain kind of body should be called desirable and perfect, it also encourages everyone to celebrate themselves and their bodies. Body positivity also makes viewers consider how the social communications of mass media relate to people's interaction with their bodies, and their feelings of diet, fitness, clothes, wellbeing, identity, and self-care. The hope is that individuals will establish healthy and realistic connections with the body through a clearer knowledge of the consequences of certain forces.
3. Clearing out the confusions
Body positivity is not just about acceptance and inclusiveness of flaws as the more mainstream definition of it. But it is more inclined towards the way one views oneself. What we mean by this is that body positivity can be practiced by focusing more on one’s positives and uniqueness rather than one’s flaws. Positivity of the body often means to be proud and not to overcome changes that result due to age, pregnancy, or lifestyle decisions.
Body positivity can mean
· Feel empowered within your own
· Feeling happy for your body
· Love yourself and working on yourself
· Respecting the shape and scale of your body
4. The other side of the coin
One topic that can be put on the table for questioning is the great brands that, by ad strategies, enter this cause, the thousands of Instagram accounts focused on the subject, the rising trend for weight and corpora disease, and the direction to be taken by women and men in pursuit of self-esteem. Moreover, it may also pose greater health risks at times when a person is too busy being comfortable in their skin that they even ignore actual health problems that may accumulate into a serious crisis.
5. What could be done?
Wear and buy clothing for your body – not for any potential expected version. You can adhere to your 'thin clothing,' because you plan to lose weight, but those practices can make it impossible for you to feel good today. Look for stuff that makes you look relaxed and nice. Clean your wardrobe that does not suit your current health. Second, regardless of the targets or type of body, accept a balanced lifestyle and a frequent excursion not as a way to change overall aesthetics, but as the rewards are absolutely limitless. In exchange, you raise your loyalty to the sky, which is solid proof that you are able to look after your body, adopting a controlled schedule.
So today love yourself a little bit more, embrace all your flaws and imperfections, and don't let the opinions of others affect your self-confidence. Be flawsome! Be You!
This is so beautiful! Well done everyone!
Imperfectly Perfect. Two words to describe this post. It's really important for us to not lose ourselves in our pursuit of 'perfection'. Loving ourselves is the way to go! 💫
