ART DIARIES

The "Earth" without "art" is just "Eh."

“Art is the journey of a free soul”

Times have been tough. Tides have been strong and the road can get rough any day. One must always cling onto something to get through the darkness. During this pandemic, art has been the anchor to prevent people from drifting away into the stormy sea. It gave people a purpose to fight through the odds. Reality let us down but art never did. Social media, considered a curse by many, became the platform for people to express their talents and showcase their skills.

We think that art is both trending and helps one to pierce fantasy. It is like food to our soul. It decreases our suffering and helps us grow. It manages to leave an indelible mark on us. Artists add beauty to the world and their minds are full of colors and patterns. So, to catch a glimpse of their imaginative mind, we interviewed three artistic creators this week, Nandini Moudgil, Anuja Parab, and Isha Kamal.

A mandala, which is Sanskrit for 'circle', is a geometrical design that carries a great deal of significance in Hindu and Buddhist cultures. Mandalas have become a spiritual symbol in Asian art. They serve as a reflection of the universe and a guide on the road to enlightenment. The practice of creating mandalas is a transformative practice that can help to restore inner peace. Nandini Moudgil, a Mandala artist, said that "Art is a medium of expression and a way to escape reality". She also mentioned that art has helped to improve her mental health. While talking about Instagram as a platform for artists, she said “it's important to stay consistent with your work but even then, it can be demotivating when your efforts don't get enough attention.” When asked what keeps her motivated, she said "my passion for art as well as the support from my parents".

This painting infuses a sense of composure and tranquillity. The painted earthen lamps on the periphery fill the heart with the fire of hope and ambitions. The creator of this painting, Anuja Parab loved to paint ever since she was a child but academic pressure got in the way. Then the pandemic gave her a chance to improve her skills. While talking about art, she said, “Painting works as a therapy for me, whenever I’m stressed or anxious, nothing helps better than a blank canvas and colors”. Recently, one of her reels went viral and received 753k views so we asked her what is it like to run an account and she said “It’s a great platform which helps to connect to a wider audience. She mentioned that her family and friends are supportive of her passion and push her to do better.

The magic of acrylic painting is that it adds life to the painting. This hyper-realistic work of art by Isha Kamal satiates the taste buds while also tempting to order a delicious chocolate brownie. When asked about her art, she said, "Art is something that I have always been passionate about. It brings me immense joy and makes me feel calm”. She asserted that art has helped her to improve her concentration and organize her thoughts. According to her, Instagram has played a huge role in supporting artists and has also helped her to make friends among the art community. Art has changed the way she looks at her surroundings. "I've noticed a change in my perspective, now every time I travel, I have this certain way of looking at things through a painter's perspective," she said. Her own will to improvise and do better is what keeps her motivated.

The interviews were very insightful and we want to thank the artists for their time and for providing us the opportunity to feature their artworks here Make sure that you follow them at @nm_mandalas, @anujaart__, @elysian.vibes.

Artists are creators and our world needs more creators than destroyers.”
