Psychic, aren't we all?

There’s no such thing as psychics!

If there’s anything Simon Baker, or at the least his character Patrick Jane on the show The

Mentalist is stubborn about, it is that psychics don’t exist. It is a tough road to tread on, testing the belief in the beyond or supernatural, or the evidence of the physical world. Why

would I not want to believe in a magical or supernatural panorama? Or why should I believe in something vague, when the real world or technically the nature is ready to give the answers in the language of ‘The Science’; or just a thought, why should I even choose?

Acclaimed authors Jenny Randles and Peter Hough are quite convinced that the psychics have abilities that have helped the police solve several crimes, as mentioned in their book Psychic Detective. Well, if you are intrigued, you must find a copy and see for yourself, they’ve got interesting accounts on Jack the Ripper and John F Kennedy assassination too. Moving away from murders and mysteries, is it not just comfortable to know that the loved ones who have passed away have a place to go, that they have a new life presumably better than here; of course, it’s better than knowing that they are nothing but dust now. One has the right to choose what to believe in, and we do not question it, but it is not easy to choose from a beautiful lie and a harsh truth either; we can perceive it a matter of choice, and something each of us will have to do that for ourselves.

While we treat with intrigue and doubt the people who claim to have the ability to contact the ‘spirit realm’, aren’t we all psychics when we listen to our intuition or just the conscience maybe, a tiny voice that talks to you, that gives you the feeling of right and wrong, danger and safety, good and bad; that enigmatic voice which is sufficient for one to join the league of ‘the special people’ that we dearly call psychics? It is not necessary to look up to another or look down on yourself to realize the truth or to seek the comfort that you yearn for. The voice we are looking for is within ourselves, call it God, intuition, guardian angel, the voice of the ancestors, call it anything, but know it is there. Scientifically, your intuitions are the fast processed information of the sub-conscious that your conscious mind can’t keep up with. So, there’s another choice to make: call it magic or…science.

Apparently with the pandemic, several individuals and organizations have interestingly claimed that they had foreseen the predicament a long time ago. In that case, Bill Gates might be one of them too, because in his 2015 Ted Talk, he had touched upon the possibility of an imminent biological disaster: psychic or coincidence? Either way, he has not claimed any credit. The world is full of elements we do not understand, or the knowledge of which our brain cannot accommodate; that is the only reason this phenomenon seems like magic to us. Ignorance is bliss after all, because that keeps the magic in us alive. Psychics may or may not exist, but that is not our concern, our concern is to make the choice of belief. And as for Patrick Jane, he still prefers the title mentalist over psychic; for he has made his choice. At the end of the day, life will always give you magic, wonderous phenomenon, along with solid lemons!
